About Dawn
Hello! My name is Dawn K. Wing, and I’m originally from Queens, NY. I am currently a Reference and Instruction Librarian at Metropolitan State University in Saint Paul (MN).
As a librarian at Metro State, I enjoy helping students develop their information, media and cultural literacy skills, particularly through popular culture and graphic narratives. In my position, I am also excited to further promote diverse voices and under-represented histories by coordinating community engagement events/programs such as film screenings, literary readings and zine workshops. Throughout my career as a librarian, I make sure to refresh and expand my horizons in the realm of outreach and engagement by continually building strong connections with colleagues and community partners.
Prior to my career as a librarian, I taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in public schools and worked with students from all over the world. My fascination with different cultures, languages, and food has led me to travel and live in various countries like New Zealand and Japan.
I enjoy combining my passion for teaching, outreach and creativity in diverse learning communities. I always find it deeply fulfilling to help patrons/students achieve their academic and professional goals. Through teaching, I have the opportunity to learn from the life experiences of others.
My interests include creating zines and comics, traveling, swimming, bicycling and hiking.
